1) What was the biggest surprise for you in the reading?
I was surprised to read that entrepreneurs may be hesitant to make a strategic plan because of a lack of trust and openness with their employees. This is something that I have overlooked and it is actually an essential aspect of strategic planning of a new venture.
2) Identify at least one part of the reading that was confusing to you.
The entrepreneurial strategy matrix model was confusing to me because there were not many examples of it. The matrix was relatively simple but I would have more clearly seen the relationships if the text provided an example or two using the matrix.
3) If you were able to ask two questions to the author, what would you ask? Why?
- Which of the five steps in strategic planning do you think is the most important?
- Which of the five reasons for the lack of strategic planning do you think is the most detrimental to a new venture?
4) Was there anything you think the author was wrong about? Where do you disagree with what he or she said? How?
I do not necessarily agree that the entrepreneurial culture and administrative culture are as divided as the author states in Table 13.3 in this chapter. Although there are clear differences between the two, I feel there is some overlap of cultures and techniques that should be more clearly noted by the text.
